Hi! My name is Kristin Rytter. After completing my Phd in developmental psychology at the University of Washington, I also go by Dr. Rytter. My Ph.D was focused on infant/child learning, language, attachment and social-emotional development. For my dissertation, I conducted research on improving pre-literacy in toddlers with speech and physical impairments through parental intervention.
After finishing my degree, I started my own business called Unique Perspective: helping children with disabilities succeed in life. I achieved this by teaching, writing and working with families, professionals and support systems for these children. I have also given workshops, published articles, consulted with assistive technology developers, and have consulted regarding the intersection of pre-literacy, literacy and Alternative and Augmentative Communication (ACC).
In my spare time, I have written about my life experiences in my self-published autobiography, People Who Raised Me Beyond. In recent years, I have been working on a series of educational novels which explore the experience of a family raising a child that has severe speech and physical impairments.
Due to these unique accomplishments, I was also invited to be a presenter at the American Speech and Hearing Association Convention in November, 2015, where I was awarded the Edwin and Esther Prentke AAC Distinguished Lecture Award.
My whole life has been defined by a unique combination of above-average intellect, packaged in a body that has some serious physical limitations. I have always hated to be bored, therefore I decided I would educate my mind as much as possible, utilizing patience with time, diligence and willingness, incorporating my physical limitations along the way.
