Here is an overview of the four step interview process:
- I will select your resume from a pool of applicants from the current online hiring website I am using OR select you based on your answers to the online questionnaire you submitted to me by email.
- I will ask my assistant resource coordinator to set up an initial phone screening with you. Usually they will text you to schedule it, and they will chat with you for about 20-30 minutes.
- If I like your answers to the phone screening, I will invite you for a face to face (or zoom) interview with me.
- If the interview with me goes well, I will ask you for 3 personal and 3 professional references and ask my assistance resource coordinator or a current support staff to check them.
- If the reference checks go well, I will offer you the job.
Below are more details about what you can expect from each stage of the process, including informational videos.
Pre-Application
If you are seeing this portion of the website before you submit your application please watch the video below to get a better idea about what the job is and isn’t before you submit your application.
Phone Screening
After you have initially applied for the job (either through an online hiring portal or through the questionnaire on this website), you will be contacted by my assistant resource coordinator.
They will probably text you to schedule a short phone screening that will take about 20-30 minutes. This phone screening will involve a few practical and theoretical questions about yourself to make sure that you are a good fit for the job.
This phone screening is also a good opportunity for you to ask questions about the job, however, please be mindful and refrain from asking questions about my age, weight and personal life. Below is a video that you can watch in order to prepare yourself to have a successful phone screening.
Face-to-face interview with me
If the phone screening went well, I will invite you to have a job interview with me either in person or over Zoom.
Some important things to know before your interview with me are:
- I conduct the interview using my eye gaze communication system (the screen you have seen and heard in the previous videos).
- The questions I will ask you will have been pre-programmed into the device, therefore, those will be spoken quickly. However, if I want to ask you a follow up question or explain something more thoroughly, I will type it out – which takes more time.
- One of my current support staff will be in the interview with us. In most interviews, the interviewee should equally address everyone else in the room as they are speaking. However, this situation is a little bit different. I will the main person conducting the interview, and my support staff will only be there as backup if I want them to explain something etc. Therefore, please feel comfortable to address me when you are speaking during the interview.
- Some of the questions may surprise you! I ask thought provoking questions in order to get a feel for who I am interviewing. Therefore, please feel free to be yourself and focus on being authentic rather than “right”.
- You will have time to ask me questions about the job at the end of the interview. Just as in the phone screening, please remember to keep these questions about the job duties and not about my personal data.
Below is a video that will give you more information on what to expect during your interview with me.
Reference check
If the interview with me went well, I will ask you for 3 personal and 3 professional references.
Professional references include: previous coworkers, college professors, mentors, coaches, clergy members, or volunteer group coordinator.
Personal references include: friends and family
After checking your references, if all is good, I will offer you the job.
The video below explains what you can next expect in the process, if you accept the job.
Thank you for your time and best of luck wherever you are in the process!
